Hi, I’m Amy and I’m a freshman. Highschool has been quite a rollercoaster. So of course, I didn’t know what to expect. Just how I initially wasn’t sure what to expect from the crochet club on Wednesdays, especially as a beginner. All that was in my mind was that I always wanted to learn how to crochet. From the very first meeting, I’ve been welcomed into a warm and supportive environment that has made learning crochet both enjoyable and fulfilling. The members have been incredibly generous with their time and ability, providing guidance with genuine enthusiasm and patience that has made all the difference. Each session is not just about crocheting but about building connections; it’s a time filled with laughter, shared stories, and the start of new friendships that make every gathering special.
The club has become more than just a crafting group—it’s a community where everyone feels valued and included. They take great pride in a supportive and fun atmosphere where crocheters of all skill levels, from beginners to experts, can come together to share their passion. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, you’ll find a welcoming space where you can grow and belong.
Since becoming an official club this year, we’ve been thinking on how we can give back to the community that has supported us. One idea that has been thought about is to donate some of the items we create in the future, such as socks, hats, and maybe even plushies. We hope that through these donations, we can show our appreciation and contribute something meaningful, making a positive impact and sharing the joy of crochet with others.
Our journey wouldn’t have been possible without the vision of Ms. Julie, our sponsor, Abigail Van Swearingen, our president, and our other officers that have helped along the way. Abigail’s inspiration led to the creation of this club, and despite encountering hurdles—such as switching sponsors and overcoming challenges with past club officers—she remained determind. Her perseverance has not only formed lasting friendships and unforgettable memories but also spread her passion for crochet. For example, Bella Sheffer, grade 10, a member of crochet club had said, “I go to crochet club to either help people learn or hang out with my friends.” Even other members come to have a good time to learn or hang out just like Bella. Also, Mariam Mussa, grade 9, said, “I joined because I wanted to be able to crochet for the people I love and for myself.” Mariam is learning and she met so many awesome people along the way. Through Abigail’s efforts, she is not only teaching others the art of crochet but also weaving through crochet club and stitching together our wonderful community that we are so joyed to be a part of. Maybe it could be a community for you to be apart of & be proud of too.
So, if you’re interested in this club join us on Wednesdays in room 635! Hope to see you there!
